Perhaps you're planning something unique?
Maybe you're an artist, film maker or dancer looking for a soundscape. Perhaps you run a gallery or want to host an exhibition or launch a book. Could it be that you just want to have something different for your live music?
I studied for my Music degree as a mature student at Dartington College of Arts, graduating with 1st Class Hons in 2006. Dartington is renowned for its cross genre collaborations and for being on the cutting edge of contemporary arts practises, and it was whilst studying there that I became interested in the performance of contemporary vocal music. This included commissioning new works for voice from composers, collaborating with dancers and film makers and performing pieces by leading contemporary composers such as Reich and Glass. I was fortunate enough to work several times with Gavin Bryars and even performed his Incipit Vita Nova in his presence at my graduation ceremony. In 2006 I was a soloist in a recording for Frank Denyer which will be released on Mode Records of New York in March 2008.
Another passion of mine is folk music, having sung in several bands and at sessions far and wide. I particularly enjoy the beauty of unaccompanied folk songs, often humourous, sometimes haunting but always spell binding.
Also in the category of 'something different' are pieces such as Tree Song (click to listen), composed entirely of modified sample recordings of my voice, reconstructed to create a soundscape evocative of earth, trees, buds and sky.
These more unusual areas of my vocal work are too heterogeneous to talk about in great detail here and are limited only by imagination, so please contact me for more information and to discuss your ideas.
